Deke made his debut as an author in the mid-80s when he put out a 70 page primer on the basic concepts of desktop publishing. He soon gave up on his position as an Art Director to pursue writing full time.  By 1989, he had won his first major award, The Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Computer book.  Since then, he has received honors from the Society for Technical Communication, The American Society of Business Press Editors, the Western Publications Association, a total of seven awards from the Computer Press Association and book bytes Author of the Year award.

Not content to limit his training to textbooks, Deke is featured in the popular video series, Digital Photography with Photoshop Elements, the in-depth total training for Adobe Photoshop video series and is a contributing editor for Mac World and Photoshop User magazines. Deke even wound up hosting the popular tv shows, Digital Gurus, which ran on Jones Computer Network for four years.

Part of the key to Deke’s success lies in his laid back, lighthearted and engaging style which connects with Photoshop users. His passionate commitment for what he does comes through in every book, every video, and every live training session he leads.

That’s why we honor him and his many contributions to the field of Photoshop education with his induction in the Photoshop Hall of Fame.
